Unscrew the Cap
February 04, 2011
“Before we are able to receive a gift, from a friend or from nature, we have to be open to it; a bottle with its cap screwed on tightly cannot be filled with water no matter how much water we try to pour into it or how often we try—the water simply runs down its sides, never filling it. It is only when we feel worthy of happiness that we open ourselves up to life’s ultimate treasure.” Even Happier, by Tal Ben-Shahar, Ph.D

I can't tell you how much I needed to read this quote today - and your title is perfect for it! Things don't always come the way I want/expect .... and I fail to let some blessings in. I'm trying to open up more and let them in how ever they are packaged.
ReplyDeleteAs Claire mentions, this is quite the timely post. And like Claire, I sometimes miss the forest for the trees because the blessings didn't come quite the way I expected them to.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the gentle reminder.
What a beautiful photograph and a wonderful quote to go with it.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote. Something to think about - how "open" am I? Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful and so true. And once you get that cap unscrewed to let the good stuff in I believe you have to work just as hard to get the neative stuff out.
ReplyDelete...that was supposed to read "neGative" stuff...lol
ReplyDeleteClaire--I'm glad the quote means something to you, too. I feel I sometimes get so busy and caught up in "stuff" that I miss the good stuff that comes, or take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteLaure--When I reread this quote, it reminded me of my word of the year last year. I should have posted it on my desk somewhere!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cheryl! I love pansies and thought these were such a pretty color.
ReplyDeleteTimaree--Sometimes I feel about as open as that tightly screwed on bottle cap! But I'm trying...
ReplyDeletePossum--Good point--once you get that cap off, you have to pour out the old before you can pour in the new!
ReplyDeleteWorking on unscrewing it -- but lately that cap is on tight! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat quote. Thanks for sharing, Kathy!
Meredith--Sometimes we need to get out the pliers, don't we?!
