Only in the South
May 07, 2012Stumbled on this magazine at the grocery store:
I had not seen it before, but I see by the cover it’s
celebrating its fifth anniversary! I don’t know who thought of it, but
apparently someone felt that gardens and guns were a nifty combination. And
many other someones must agree, or it wouldn’t still be in print.
I should have flipped through it, but I was in a hurry to
finish shopping. Next time I see it, I’m going to take a peek.
What interesting combinations have you seen lately?

I guess you have to blast those grasshoppers somehow huh? Now would it take an AK47 for the grasshoppers and a BB gun for the aphids or...
ReplyDeleteNo, I've never seen a combo like this one!
Ha! I guess you would have to adjust your ammo to the size of the pest...
ReplyDeleteWell this was my laugh for today. Thank you. Perhaps he's after moles/voles... You know shotgun goes in the hole and BaM..please if you look inside let us know. Take care,Diana
ReplyDeleteThat is funny! I haven't heard of it, and I live in redneck country ... I'll see if we have it in our stores.

Diana--My grandfather used to keep a gun on hand for shooting rattlesnakes on their farm. Maybe that's where this comes from?
ReplyDeleteKathy--Yes, do let me know if it really is a southern thing, or if you have it out there in the west.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Just had to chime in... as I've purchased Garden and Gun before! It's a unique, artsy exploration of the South and it's people. Don't be scared off by the name. Articles include topics such as literature, great food, style, travel, etc--all as it relates to the South. But I had no idea it had been around for 5 years! I just found your blog and love the theme. I'm off to explore it a little more. All the best~ Anna, also in Central FL
