February is for (Book) Lovers
February 08, 2013
If you’re a book lover, February has some fun and worthwhile
bookish events. First, February is Library Lovers’ Month, a celebration of
school, public and private libraries. This month is a time for the community to
recognize the value of libraries and work to keep them strong. Check your local
library(ies) for any events planned.
February 14 is International Book Giving Day, an initiative
dedicated to increasing children’s enthusiasm for and access to books.
Organizers aim to put books into the hands of as many children as possible.
Suggestions for those who want to participate include giving a book to a friend
or family member, leave a book in a waiting room where children will be, or
donate a book to an organization that provides books to children, such as a
library, second-hand store, children’s hospital or shelter. Organizations such
as Books for Africa ,
Books for Kids,
or Project Night Night are also good places for book donations intended for children.
I have to admit, though, that my favorite bookish
celebration in February is tomorrow: Read in the Bathtub Day! I love to read in the bathtub (another
reason an e-reader won’t ever completely replace paper books in my heart) so I
will be more than happy to participate.

This is wonderful information & I'm thrilled to read this. I will send the info to my local public librarians!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about all the special events for book lovers - interesting information. I had to laugh about reading in the bathtub though - a good friend of mine's husband has had to replace at least 2 (or maybe 3) library books because he dropped them while reading in the bathtub! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly to keep buying more second hand ones! I am always afraid to read in the bathtub, that I will get my book wet.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Kathy.

Rita--Thanks for passing it on and hope it's helpful.
ReplyDeleteCheryl--Ha--I don't think I've ever actually dropped a book in the bathtub, but they have gotten splashed a bit. I'm very careful, especially with library books.
ReplyDeleteKathy--A woman after my own heart! I can't resist buying books, even when my shelves are overflowing. You never know what treasure you'll stumble upon, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm usually pretty careful with my books when I read in the tub, though that doesn't mean there isn't the occasional "incident."
I think I'm too clutzy to read a book in a bathtub! I don't have any special books in mind, but there are a few tried and true favorites that I usually re-read each winter.
ReplyDeleteKrista--Comfort reading in winter--is there anything better? I think not!
